RSS and BLOG MOVE - blog.werder.fyi

TLDR update your RSS Feed of this site! This neocities site will be read only as of May 2026

I moved my blog to my subdomain blog.werder.fyi after wondering for a year if I should. Moving houses and websites is similar. You go around shopping for a new home that has everything: subdomains, free hosting, easy to set up etc.

When I started blogging in 2023 (December but it was still that year) I knew about Zonelets Home which is still a great toolkit to understand The Web but writing html, css and javascript AND writing the RSS per Hand is doable but is kinda a whole rolling eyes thing for me at this point. Zonelets helped me immensely to feel comfortable using other web dev stuff and having the feeling of owning my handful of files (posts, javascript main file, css styling etc.). And if anyone would like to dip their toe into the world of blogging and WANTS to "UNPROFESSIONAL-looking website by writing NUMEROUS lines of code" then you should use Zonelets. Its great!

But there is also a little Legacy to this. I switched over to Adamas ZoneRss which works a bit easier but after some debugging time was still not the most fitting toolset for my workflow. I had to copy some html into the Tools Adam build like here. See I love mardown. I like that its a bit like Plain text but is way nicer to look at and with tools like Obisidan.md or Taio for IOS it is a breeze to get my thoughts down. But the web likes plain text and html so I always just slapped it into a converter and hopped for the best.

2025 I heard about Static Site Generators (11ty) and I thought huh thats nice but there is no chance I will rebuild everything I made in zonelets/zonerss but then @renko made this wonderful tutorial Midnight Reading: 🖥️ Migrating to Eleventy and I used it to feel impowered but not continue anything beyond that. Because where should this wonderful written site live? On Neocities which did a lot for the indieweb community but since I don't write that often (and maybe not a lot of people are reading this) the 5€ per month was a bit too much. Since building my site in Zonelets and now in 11ty I knew I would own my site and just needed a web host. The 5€ Business here in the EU webhosts were to expensive for me as well but the feature for having my blog on a subdomain I own blog.werder.fyi was a non negotiable thing.

I then saw the strawberry starter and even though it has some features I dont need it ticked a lot of boxes for me Welcome to Strawberry Starter!

So I used a weekend to port over some features and aesthetics I liked (the fonts, the colors, the [Link Pages]](https://blog.werder.fyi/infolinks/indieweb/) ). Not everything was painless and not everything is exactly how I like it right now. But the summer is starting here and I dont want to sit in fron of my computer for the next week replicating my own blog ;) .

Right now my workflow looks like this with the new Straweberry Starter Set (which uses 11ty under the hood):

  1. writing my posts in its own Obsidian Folder which get the folders of the posts monted as to create any files in the "clean" website source folder
  2. Using a .bat script to test, build and deploy my website
  3. the website is currently deployed to cloudfare as that thing is so massive that having websites with custom sub domains on there to be free (as of May 2026)
  4. So I write, open a script that runs stuff in the terminal for me so I dont have to retype something and then it gets uploaded

I really like it!

Anyways now there is my new blog which I will continue on writing. Because I hate Link rot my Neocities - Proud Morning site will be up until they close down (that's my plan as of now).

Thanks for reading this and hopefully we see each other again (on the new site)

Bye! Again here is the blog blog.werder.fyi
